Obviously Zach loves his food. We've started this week working on extending the feedings from every 2 hours to every 3 hours.
Now for the hard parts:
#1 - Surgical Procedure. The pediatrician noticed that Zach is tongue-tied. The piece of tissue (lingual frenulum) that attaches the tongue to the bottom of the mouth extends all the way to the tip of his tongue. We'd never noticed before that Zach can't stick his tongue out past his gum line. This would cause speech problems later so it needs to be cut. Jason, my twin, had the same surgical procedure down years ago. Sadly for Zach this unpleasant experience will be happening tomorrow morning (Friday). I'm freaking out at the idea of needing to be there without Derrick (he has a class he can't miss at the time). I know I'll have a hard time with the blood and Zach being understandably upset. Hopefully it won't have too much effect on Zach's ability to latch on while he's healing and getting used to a floppy tongue. It sounds like it's a simple procedure so hopefully I'm worried about nothing.
#2 - Immunizations. Yesterday I took Zach to get his immuniztions. He received a total of 3 shots in his thighs. I gave him Tylenal beforehand and he did pretty good. He cried right while receiving them and fell asleep in my arms within a couple of minutes. The nurse thought his cry was really cute because he's got a deep voice for a baby. I could sympathize with Zach getting his shots since I also had to get a Tetanus booster yesterday because of a lovely ankle injury I got when I gracefully fell off a sidewalk curb on Sunday.
Here we are showing off our bandaids. Zach's bandaids are red and blue and can be seen at the edge of his shorts.
It's been hard on me seeing Zach go through these painful processes even though they are for his own good. It's gotten me thinking about how it is for Heavenly Father when we have to go through hard things. Zach doesn't understand yet why it's good for him to get poked (or have his little procedure tomorrow) and we often don't understand why we have to go through hard things. It's gotta be hard on the Lord to watch us as we cry in pain for Him to end hard times but He does all things for our own good. Being a parent is tough at times!

Does the thought still baffle you that we are parents (or soon to be)? I still feel like a little kid at heart and I'm pretty sure we could still act pretty silly together!
I'm sorry that your little guy has to go through something so painful. I'm sure you both will do great and it's very sweet to hear you talk about your love and adoration for little Zach. I can't wait to meet him! Good luck today- I'll be thinking about you.
Shot day is the pits.
Good news is, he's a healthy growing boy! I've never heard of the tongue tied thing before. Wow, poor boy. Good thing is, he won't remember it. The soreness will pass. It's so hard, though. I'm sorry. Good luck Jen. You're an amazing little Mommy.
I can't get over how cute Zach is. He is such a healthy boy! My brother-in-law's little boy had the same tongue tied thing. Only, it caused him to struggle with latching on. I'm impressed that Zach is such a good eater even though his tongue is tied. I agree, it is so hard to see your little baby be in pain. I hope things go smoothly today! He will heal quickly. I agree, you are an amazing mom!
I'm sure the surgery will go fine, that must be a scary thing to have to do. He is so cute! Glad your all doing well.
Maybe like Jason he'll obtain a mutant gleeking power as a result of his surgery...
Hope Zach's surgical procedure went well! Sorry he has to go through it! (I had to have it done when I was a baby, too. I'm glad I had it done then!)
Cute pictures!
Boo for shots and surgery. I hope it went well and everyone is happy and healthy and sleeping. Keep us updated!
I hope the surgery went well! How scary! Especially without Derrick! Let me know how every thing went! And is your ankle okay? I can certainly sympathize with sprained ankles! :) Zach looks so cute and so much chubbier than when he was first born! My little niece just had surgery on her littlest toe - she had 6 toes on one foot - and even just small, relatively minor surgeries can be rough!
